Hey everyone,

I found a recording of the exchange in the form of a half-hour meeting. I searched for "ヘイトスピーチ市長" on Bing, and I found it. If you listen carefully, you can hear the activist using the word.

Thank you Yuta for this. This was interesting.

I have a question: could you make a video about how and where to use particles and how to prounce them? That would be great and very helpful.

Great video! Also I was wondering, how would one say "your" or "my" in Japanese without the use of "you" or "I/me"?

It's not rude to say I/me, just "you".

The simplest way to say "my …" would therefore be "私の…"
The way you would say "your" would then men the persons name + の , like "アビガイルの…"

Wow, I'm very interested in that actual discussion happening. I'm interested in politics, in general, and I like that kind of fiery discussion. Especially if I am passionate about one aspect of it. I can't say I like the idea of there being an "anti-Korean" activist at all. Their use of "you" was also very enlightening though. After watching a lot of anime, I have picked up on this a little, but many characters do use 君、あんた and あなた in casual situations. お前 seems to be very exclusively used as an insult though. I've never heard someone use it in a context that wasn't supposed to be aggressive, to be honest. Often it is translated as "you bastard".

Haha, I opened my mailbox only to find an e-mail called "How to insult japanese people". I laughed so hard.

Fascinating. After studying textbook Japanese for 3 years, I learned more about how to say "you" in 5 minutes with this video than in my entire prior experience! Thanks especially for translating the super-high-speed speech into English. Would have never comprehended what they were saying without that assistance.

Great video. Thanks for giving us such a different look into Japanese language and culture. I don't think any other course or textbook could have explained "you" so well, and the back-and-forth in this video is amazing. Your analysis was easy to follow. Cheers!

Thanks for the lesson. I also noticed that when japanese people are angry they talk a lot faster. Very interesting video.

I understand someone would be upset if you used codenscending "you" in inappropriate situation. Would they be upset about simple formal "anata" you though? And why exactly?

A side question. Does Japanese people have problems using "you" in English?

Thank you Yuta-san for this interesting video.
In Doraemon series, these words お前、君、あんさお are also used frequently by Jaian, the bully character 🙂
Best regards,
Yen
