I love these lessons! I've been learning Japanese formally from classes and never learned things like these. I've ended up extrapolating a lot from manga and anime, but there's no one to warn me and put things into appropriate context! Thanks Yuta!
So only use "you" if you are picking a fight or insulting someone then?
That conversation reminded me of a scene from Ocean's 11:
"Watch it, bud."
"Who you calling bud, pal?"
"Who you calling pal, friend?"
"Who you calling friend, jackass?!"
"Don't call me a jackass."
"I just did call you a jackass."
The entire talk had no real topic, cause both parties were too focused on insulting each other in order to show who is boss. Fascinating, that a word such as "you" can have such an impact, isn't it?
Yuta, can you explain to me what the grammar behind "「あんた」じゃねえだろう" is? I am under the impression that "じゃねえ" is an informal way of saying "じゃない", right? But then why do you translate it as "Don't say 'anta'" when, if translated literally, it means "it is not 'anta'"?
I think using "You" in English is also rude in certain situations. Like "Hey you! Come here !" I think they are very direct words. I'll be avoiding those from now on.

How would you say "how many people are in your family?" Without using a form of the word you? Would ご家族は何人ですか work?

It was a tag bit hard to hear some of the words used at first mostly because how fast they spoke and the video sound kind of fuzzy . But after going back again i some what pick some words out .

Very interesting video! It's sad that all these shades of the language get lost when translated! I notice the same thing with the movie "kimi no na wa"

I couldn't agree more with how intricate communication can be. One thing that I do wonder about is the origin of these words that are seen as so derogatory. Not simply as in a curse word, at least from the perspective of curse words used in a America that some words by themselves are seen as wrong and bad, but these words used appear to be specifically intended as extremely derogatory, though their translations to english are difficult to express fully. It would be amazing to become fully immersed in the actual nuances of the language. Thank you, Yuta, for doing just that!

i don't use you any time it's right? So can i talk to frinds:
haruka, omoshiroi.
do i say to haruka "you are intreresting" ? i don't use "desu ne" so i think it is to keigo for a frind, right?

When you use You . I learned this from anime but saying omae time kisama, etc. It's like the equivilant of saying "you bastard or you bitch." I learned it from the subs in anime.
